DescriptionLetter describing the resignation of Dr Charles Hutton as Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society and the resulting furore. Bennett describes the period (1783-1784) as "years of the great rebellion in the Royal Society".

The letter is a result of a request by Bennett's correspondent (whose name is obscured). Bennett attempts to investigate Hutton's resignation through the books of the Royal Society but finds it difficult to do so.
