TitleCopy of letter from James Watt, Birmingham, to Joseph Priestley
Date26 April 1783
DescriptionOffering some thoughts which have occured to him "in considering your very curious & important discoveries on the nature of Philogiston and Dephlogisticated air and on the conversion of water into air and vice versa".

Watt concludes, "All that I conceive to be new in this paper is the idea that dephlogisticated air is coomposed of water deprived of its phlogiston and united to a greater quantity of latent heat than it contains in the form of water or of steam; and that water is pure air deprived of part of its latent heat and united to phlogiston and the application of your experiments prove these hypothesis"

This copy was by Henry Wright in 1830.

Also letter from H Cecil Booth to Prof CV Boys, Secretary, Royal Society, and copy of reply, concerning the Watt letter being presented to the Royal Society.
