| Description | On the issue between the Board of Longitude and the House of Commons, which is whether the latter will grant a reward to inferior merit and thereby supersede the jurisdiction solemnly given by them to the Board. Banks believe that if Parliament grants the award to Mudge he will consider the Board humiliated and will ever after look upon its decisions as liable to be reversed by an incompetent tribunal.
Thomas Mudge petitioned Parliament after his Father's instrument to determine Longitude was awarded £500. Mudge believed it should have claimed the higher sums offered by the Board of Longitude. |
