DescriptionSabine has just recovered from influenza.

Sabine has not heard anything in the last two weeks regarding the publication of results from the magnetic observatories nor any further information on the 'America Survey'.

Sabine informs Lloyd of letters he has received from James Clark Ross regarding the establishment of the Van Diemen's Land [Tasmania; Lutruwita or Truwana] observatory by 'convict labour'.

Charles Younghusband has taken over the running of the Toronto magnetic observatory as Charles James Buchanan Riddell is on sick leave at present.

Discussion of alternative modes of observing in the magnetic observatories; the sending of new needles to St Helena and the Cape magnetic observatories; and the declining health of the instrument maker [Thomas Charles] Robinson.
