Title | Letter from Viscount Adare, Gloucester to Edward Sabine |
Date | 8 January 1835 |
Description | Adare visited Mr [?] who lives in an interesting part of the coast. Discussion on field geology. Reference to red sand, mountain lime, transition of rocks, and mineral character. Reference to the lias and carbon limestone and Dunraven, where the two come into contact. Collection of specimens. Adare has written to [Adam] Sedgwick about conducting a geological examination in the south west of Ireland, and describes his capability as recently shown by his work on transitions in Wales. Adare hopes to make excursions and observations next summer in places of interest. Adare comments that [Thomas] Weaver would contradict his results without ‘very strong grounds’, and Sabine’s own opinion seems to agree with Weaver. Reference to the coral basin and geology of Glamorganshire. |
