TitleLetter from Joseph Bolzani, St Petersburg to Edward Sabine
Date5 November 1862; 17 November 1862
DescriptionBolzani informs Sabine of his arrival in St Petersburg after a rough 12 day sea voyage, and leaves for Kazan tomorrow. Bolzani has spoken to the ‘minister of public instruction’ regarding the magnetic instruments, and remarks on being warmly received. Discussion on setting up a magnetic observatory at Kazan with a set of Kew instruments. Reference to Sabine’s report on a magnetic survey in England. A set of relative pendulum experiments will made throughout the Russian empire. On behalf of Mr [?] Bolzani asks Sabine details related to reversible pendulums, as he does not know the English language he has been unable to directly write to Sabine.
