Title | Letter from John Allan Broun, Makerstoun, Kelso to Edward Sabine |
Date | 12 October 1847 |
Description | Broun clarifies his statement regarding results obtained by Sabine and Dr [Humphrey] Lloyd in a previous letter and comments in their different methods. Sabine’s method implied a necessity to investigate disturbances above a certain magnitude only. Broun describes a conversation he had with Lloyd in 1845 regarding disturbances, in which they agreed there two kinds of disturbances, however, Broun does not see a reason why magnitude would be evidence for different causes of disturbances. Extract from the transactions of the British Association regarding Lloyd’s results. Broun apologises for placing Lloyd and Sabine’s results in strong opposition to each other, though this was not his intention to do so. |
