Title | Letter from John Allan Broun, Stuttgart to Edward Sabine |
Date | 5 October 1870 |
Description | Brooke has decided to write to Lord [Francis] Napier, present Governor of Madras [Chennai] directly, suggesting the continuation of observations for a few more years and its benefits to the advancement of science, and would like to enclose the opinion of men of science within his correspondence. Brooke requests Sabine to write a few lines for this purpose. Brooke informs Sabine that Mr [George Biddell] Airy does not have anything to do with the [Thiruvananthapuram] Trevandrum Observatory, and not on record, and should Lord Napier choose to aid this endeavour his actions must also be kept private.
Reference to the mean declination at [Thiruvananthapuram] Trevandrum Observatory for July 1870, and Brooke's remarks on the importance of one more years observation.
Remarks on [John] Caldecott’s chief assistants. |
