Title | Letter from William Rutter Dawes, Wateringbury, Maidstone to Edward Sabine |
Date | 5 October 1852 |
Description | Dawes was urged by his friends to send [Alexander von] Humboldt the ‘curious’ results of his observations on solar spots conducted by his new solar eye piece and an eight and a half foot refractor. Dawes has overcome his reluctance on intruding on the ‘distinguished philosopher’ and asks Sabine’s assistance regarding how and where to send his account.
Expresses his regret at not being able to attend the meeting of the British Association due to his health, and would have liked to present his solar observations to the physical section. Reference to observations of the sun and the suns surface.
Dawes remarks on Sabine’s ‘expeditions of the cosmos’, and table containing ‘elements of the orbits of double stars’. |
