DescriptionRefers to Lieutenant Blakiston receiving double pay during his time ‘exploring British North America’, Palliser enquires if Sabine is able to secure double pay for him too. Palliser describes himself as a Captain in the Waterford Militia Artillery and discusses his pay. Refers to ‘the disastrous Indian news’ and the ‘grand brave deeds’ of ‘noble officers and men who have stormed Delhi and saved India’ [referring to the Indian rebellion of 1857]. Palliser remarks on their expedition being ‘fortunate’, having no ‘accidents or collisions with the Indians [sic]’ referring to Indigenous peoples, and describes conducting astronomical observations. Refers to discovering a 'chain of lakes between the south branch of the Saskatchewan and Red River'.
