Title | Letter from Edward Sabine, Woolwich to Lord Northampton |
Date | 3 January 1849 |
Description | Sabine discusses scientific committees which Northampton has asked his opinion on. Refers to his own ‘branch of science’ being ‘called meteorology’ ‘in the language of The Royal Society’, but includes ‘all subjects of terrestrial physics’. Sabine argues that scientific committees have excluded ‘this branch from’ participating ‘in the award of the Royal Medals’. Refers to the advantages that meteorological branch ‘has been deprived of’. References a letter written by [John] Herschel to the Committee of Physics and Meteorology in 1846. Sabine refers to the joint aspect of the two committees of Physics and Meteorology. |
