| Description | Strange thanks Sabine for three letters on national meteorological standards. The first letter dated 4th February was marked ‘private’. The second letter dated 5th February contained the suggestion Strange should create standards for himself. Refers to Sabine’s third letter dated 8th February. Refers to the process at Kew for constructing thermometers. Strange remarks his letters were meant ‘to show by actual comparisons’ that there is ‘a difference apparently exists between the standards of Greenwich and of Kew’. Refers to the construction of barometers and thermometers. Includes passages from Strange’s draft letter regarding Kew. Discussion regarding a list of corrections.
In postscript Strange comments on receiving Sabine’s letter dated 9th February, which refers ‘to the composition of committees of The Royal Society’, as well as inviting Strange ‘to look into the Kew methods of constructing barometers and thermometers’. Strange includes a list of questions regarding meteorological standards, differences between scientific establishments, a standard for pressure and temperature. |
