Title | Letter from G C Talbot, India Store Department to Edward Sabine |
Date | 1 February 1864 |
Description | Regarding the supply and verification of scientific instruments for the public service in India. The matter is under consideration of the Secretary of State for India. Lieutenant [Alexander] Strange has been selected to purchase and examine such instruments. Sir Charles Wood asks Sabine’s opinion regarding Colonel Strange’s principle that all instruments for India should be subjected to tests in actual use before they are accepted by the makers and sent abroad, and whether Strange’s proposed adjustments described in the enclosed memorandum [see MS/357/5/2] justifies £800 expenditure. |
