Title | Letter from Edward Walker, Segrave Lodge, Cheltenham to [Edward Sabine] |
Date | 9 October 1865 |
Description | Walker discusses a mistake in [François] Arago’s [meteorological] essays, on page 387 (Longman) ‘in the table for the secular diminution of the dip at Paris from 1798to 1851. Includes the table and describes the mistakes he has discovered.
Mr [Balfour] Stewart has sent Walker his account of the magnetographs at Kew and the first volume of the Dublin observations. However, these do not answer Walker’s question regarding the annual ‘variation’ in declination. Professor [James] Challis has laid an application for a grant of £50 to the Royal Society which has been supported by [John Couch] Adams. |
