Description | Gives thanks for the letter, but regrets to mention the personal nature of the letter means it cannot be shown to a Principal Officer. Informs of the expectation for their to be seats for the executive of the First Scientific Corporation in the Kingdom for the Funeral of the Duke of Wellington [Arthur Wellesley], who was also a Fellow of the Royal Society. However, states 5000 seats have been taken up by the Dean and Chapters of St. Paul's. Had there been space, there would have been representatives of eminence, including Earl Rosse [William Parsons], Sir John Herschel, the Dean of Ely [George Peacock], Col. [Edward] Sabine, Captain Smyth etc etc. |
