Description | Updates the situation regarding the Government joining the Bureau international des poids et mesures. Explains that on unofficial, but nevertheless authoritative advise from the Astronomer Royal [William Henry Mahoney Christie] and Dr. [David] Gill, Astronomer Royal of the Cape, and on the understanding the an arrears of £1750 and annual payment of £318, the UK will join. This is on condition that the UK will not be required to adopt the Metric system and put in place any measures that will affect the adhesion of the country to the convention. |
