TitleLetter from J [John] Brown, Edenderry House, Belfast, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorBrown; John (1850-1911); British manufacturer
Date7 October 1886
DescriptionBrown is sorry that his prophecy about the water drop experiment went for nothing. Every time an experiment is made, the old water drop connection theory is deemed a fallacy. He describes an experiment employing a connection by solution between copper and iron in detail, and points within Larmor's last letter to him. He notes similarities between Lodge's paper and his own, and areas of disagreement between the two. Larmor's wet thread connection suggests a better explanation of the disappearance of the Volta effect when chemical action ceases. He sent the paper to Lord Rayleigh on Saturday and had a brief acknowledgement by postcard. Brown describes his travel arrangements and sends a paper he mentioned in his last letter, with the place he referred to marked.
