| Description | When sending the papers, Armstrong had asked Larmor to put them in the B volume. They might well have gone in a recent number. He sent the revised proof so long ago that he has already heard from his son in Port Said where he sent a second copy. 'The folk in the office are in the old rut'. [In a section marked 'private'] He wishes to talk about the C- [?] Committee. Mond proposes to retire and has suggested a zoological replacement. Kempe might come in his place, but there is a question of whether it is policy to have all Royal Society Officers. He thinks it desirable that Kempe should be a member of the committee and if so it would be unnecessary for Larmor to also undertake the work. He asks if Chalmers Mitchell should be on the committee. With Blandford was gone there is no-one among the zoologists unless Farmer, who would be helpful. Apart from Callendar and Newall, the astronomers are not clear on what they are to do. A good deal of money is being wasted on eclipses in consequence. The enclosure will show Larmor how inextricably mixed up physics and chemistry are. He would welcome suggestions on things to be done in examining coloured substances. He is now working on a general account of the colour problem, a complex story which might be of interest to the Royal Society. |
