Title | Letter from W E [William Edward] Ayrton, 41 Norfolk Square, Hyde Park, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Ayrton; William Edward (1847-1908) British electrical engineer and physicist |
Date | 30 January 1908 |
Description | Thanking Larmor for coming to his rescue. He sends lantern slides by a bearer, Mrs. Aryton's Secretary, with instructions and a sketch. The paper explains how Mrs. Ayrton obtains her figures by shaking the trough to get the water oscillating, then allowing the oscillations to subside and the powder to show. Rayleigh and Poyting have seen demonstrations of the kind that Mrs. Ayrton intends to give at Burlington House that afternoon. If he came, he would not be able to work the large troughs which Mrs. Ayrton has had specially made for today, nor can his assistants or an electric motor help. Ayrton received Harrison's letter this morning about better lighting for the tea room. He does not refer to Ayrton's question about the supply of current to the small room to the left of the Meeting Room, which has been used as an overflow space for soiree experiments. Duddell used the room to show Kelvin the musical arc some years ago. |
