DescriptionTransmits a copy of a letter received by the Council of the Royal Society from the secretary of the Kew Observatory regarding the change of its name. The Council feels that the arguments against the change have very great force but that they trust that Mr Whipple's suggested precautions will reduce to a minimum the inconveniences that have hitherto been felt. Back: crossed out draft of a letter giving news of the appointment of General Strachey as chairman of the Meteorological committee.
