DescriptionThanks him for his handsome offer to provide accommodation for [number two crossed out] English observers in the French expedition for observation of the eclipse of the sun from Caroline Island in May 1883. Informs that through a concurrence of untoward circumstances the Council of the Royal Society has not been able to do more than appoint two photographers for whom accommodation in the American eclipse expedition has been granted. Informs that while his offer is highly appreciated, the Royal Society cannot accept it. Wishes complete success to the well-equipped expedition for observation of the interesting phenomenon. Incomplete.
