DescriptionA new observatory, at Harvard University, has joined in the British magnetic scheme. It is the 35th institution to pledge its cooperation to the scheme.

Sabine at present engaged in drawing up the report of the committee for improving naval compasses.

Letter received from John Henry Lefroy (at this time director of the St Helena magnetic observatory) which details the difficulties Lefroy is currently facing.

Sabine passes on some remarks of John Herschel on Lloyd's vertical force magnetometer and means for improving it.
