TitleLetter from Charles James Buchanan Riddell, Woolwich to Humphrey Lloyd, Trinity College, Dublin
Date11 November 1842
DescriptionDiscussion on the forms used for recording observations. Riddell sends Lloyd a set of forms in abstracts that he would like Lloyd to look over and offer any changes [not enclosed]. Riddell notes he is not sending the form for daily registers, as it requires no change except space for the inclinometer. The term day register and abstracts require the same addition, once Lloyd has decided at what times the inclinometer is to be observed. Riddell proposes an order of observations for term days with one observer, and two observers. Discussion on taking readings for the inclinometer. Riddell notes the readings of the inclinometer could be combined to give one mean simultaneous with the observation of the declinometer and the other with the bifilar. Riddell proposes an order for observations when the vertical force will not be observed.

Riddell sends Lloyd a copy of the observations of declination brass bar as requested [not enclosed]. Riddell suggest ordering an additional pair of magnets and asks Lloyd the preferred length of the bar.
