DescriptionPencil portraits of two girls of the Macú [Hupda] nation. The eldest [top] is 16 years old, the youngest [bottom] is 9 years old. The girls may be sisters. Portrait made recently after the girls had been purchased by the Commandant of Marabitanas. 'Their village had been destroyed -- the men all killed -- and themeselves with other women and children came away captive.'
