TitleLetter from Humphry Davy, London, to William Buckland, Professor of Mineralogy, University, Oxford
Date18 March 1822
DescriptionDavy relates that Buckland's paper was ordered to be printed unanimously. Buckland's address was torn in opening the letter and therefore Davy will not venture to send the paper as an enclosure. He wishes to address Mr [Taylor] Combe at the museum and direct him where to forward the paper. Davy agrees with Buckland on annexing drawings. He does not think anything has been anticipated in the recent publication. Davy concludes: 'I do not recollect a paper read at the Royal Society which has excited so much interest as yours'.

The paper 'Account of an assemblage of fossil teeth and bones of elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, bear, tiger, and hyæna, and sixteen other animals; discovered in a cave at Kirkdale, Yorkshire, in the year 1821...' by William Buckland was read to the Royal Society on 21 February 1822 and subsequently published in the Philosophical Transactions v.112 (1822) pp.171-263.
