DescriptionBrooke believes the existence of [means?] will be useful in advancing knowledge of terrestrial magnetism, and would like Sabine’s assistance in distributing his paper on the subject. Brooke includes a list of names and enquires is Sabine could forward his paper to them without any personal inconvenience. Brooke would like Sabine to forward a note to Admiral Beaufort [not enclosed] regarding chronometers.

Discussion on the method of adjusting the bifilar magnetometer at right angles to the magnetic meridian, the best relative position of the three magnets [declination, horizontal force and vertical force], the divisions for the scale of the collimator, and the angle of torsion for the bifilar magnetometer.
