Description | Commenting that the cloudy weather is frustrating his attempts to make photometric observations and fearing that he has wasted a great opportunity. He has determined to remain at Para in order to salvage the situation and has found an elevated site on Para's fort. Relates his fortuitous meeting with Dr Agassiz, who has been detained by the scientific oportuinities in the area. He has found 1200 new species of fish in the Amazon alone and made observations on the encroachment of the sea on the land. Comments on Agassiz's vitality and his collecting of 200 barrels of specimens and his interest in local geology. Thorpe's management of the Cotton Supply Association's affairs, with personal information.. |
