TitleCopy letter, Peter Mark Roget, Secretary of the Royal Society, to John Clayton Freeling, Excise Office
Date15 May 1834
DescriptionAcknowleding the receipt of Freeling's letter on behalf of the Duke of Sussex. He asks if this is to be considered an official communication from the Excise Office and its relationship to the letter from Thomas Spring Rice, Secretary of the Lords of the Treasury. Their Lordships will avail themselves of the Royal Society's offer to experiment on the construction of instruments and tables required. The Lords have directed that the Ecise should co-operate with the Royal Society. The investigations are likely to be of considerable expense.
