| Description | In reply to the fact the Government will not have the funds to give the £1000 grant this year, states the Royal Society was unaware of what the sources of the funds were until they were mentioned, and agree to the proposal of how the Government should vote for the grant in the future. Corrects a misapprehension that the Government Grant was used to support the Royal Society, which can finance itself. Rather the grant is used mainly to purchase instruments for scientists, and a committee of 40 is set to to distribute the grant. This has contributed to the 'advancement of science and the national character, the personal and gratuitous services of men of first note eminence'. |
