Date8 July 1884
DescriptionUpdates the Secretary of the Treasury of the situation [of the Bureau International des Paids et Mesunes]. States that letters were received from Mr. David Gill, Astronomer of the Cape and Prof. Foster, Director of the Berlin Observatory, which have been forward to the Secretary [not enclosed]. Informs that Foster is favourable to the Government joining the Bureau without accepting the Metric system and will not need to pay the full sum of arrears (£4,658). Dr. Hirsch, Secretary of the Comité international [des poids et mesures] and Director of the Observatory of Neufchatel [France] estimates this amount to be £1750.
