TitleCopy letter from [Michael] Foster, Secretary of the Royal Society; to the Secretary, Charity Commission, Christs' Hospital
Date20 June 1885
DescriptionInforms the Charity Commission of the acceptance of their offer to have the Royal Society appoint a Almoner to Christs' Hospital. Shares the opinion of the President and Council that although they have no criticism of the draft scheme sent, do propose for the teaching of science to have a greater role in public schools. Reveals fact that some individuals, although they recognise the importance of science in the curriculum, continue to see it as a basis for professional training, and will not reduce the amount of time being reserved to teaching the established subjects. The Royal Society recognises the opportunity to change this through the nomination of an Almoner.
