| Description | Geikie has received and is sending to Scott the reply that Shaw made to Scott's criticisms of the preface of the Meteorological Volume. Geikie states that he does not think that Shaw has something against Scott or his Expedition in particular. Rather, he appreciates the difficult conditions in the Antarctic, and the data he received was simply not up to his accustomed standard. Geikie does note that Shaw should have consulted Scott about the data. Geikie ends by saying that to prolong the controversy or make it public would be disastrous, and thus urges Scott to find an amicable solution. |
