TitleLetter from Hugh Edwin Strickland, Cracombe House, Everham, to Richard Owen
Date1 June 1844
DescriptionHas sent Owen a box of Bos Urus [bison] bones by rail, discovered at Bricklehampton Bank. Since there have been no discoveries of Bos Taurus in the area, he assumes that all of the bones sent to Owen were of Urus. Provides an illustrated section of the Bricklehampton Bank, indicating where the fossils were found. The locality is analgous to Lawford and the Avon has several terraces of such deposits. If the bones are of interest, he is happy to donate them to the College of Surgeons' Museum.
