TitleLetter from S[tephen] P[eter] Rigaud, Oxford, to [Francis Baily]
Date5 January 1838
DescriptionThanks Baily for his help with his [Rigaud's] paper. Explains a change in wording so as to comply with what had been used in the resolution of the committee. Believes they should keep above the style adopted by Panizzi. Admits it [Panizzi's letter to the Duke of Sussex] deserves reprobation as well as exposure, but he cannot bring himself to inflict such chastisement. Adds and explains alterations he has made to the paper. Concludes that having the paper signed by '"a member" of the catalogue committee' will sufficiently narrow the inquiry if no secret is made about the writer. Adds that with the valuable assistance Baily gave him it would not be fair for Rigaud to take all the credit to himself Adds a final correction to the paper.
