TitleDraft letters from Michael Foster to Moysey and the War Office
Date[1884]
DescriptionTwo draft letters. Front: informs Moysey that the substance of his communication made to the assistant secretary relative to a telescope belonging to the Royal Society purchased by Moysey from relatives of [William Radcliffe] Birt was laid before the Council of the Royal Society, who thanks him for making the matter known to them. Records showed that the telescope did in fact belong to the Royal Society, and the Council asks Moysey to return it to the care of the assistant secretary. Ascertains him that the President will take into further consideration the question of reimbursing him for the outcry he incensed. Back: to the under-secretary of the War Office [likely the Earl of Morley] regarding operations in the delta of Egypt. Says results fell short of what had been anticipated but were by no means without value. Informs that the president feels it is most desirable that the operations should continue and hopefully lead to a fortunate conclusion. Informs that with the view of enabling Major [R H] Williams to obtain better apparatus and to secure more efficient laborers the President and Council are prepared to contribute a further sum of £200.
