| Description | Informs that a dozen of the molluscan shells which Brady had been examining (in the deposit 810) could be recognised, and that they are mostly small as the larger ones had fallen to bits. Has no doubt that the approximate age of the deposit could be obtained by this small collection, and will send it to Mr Smith or whoever else Brady thought fit. Will ask professor Mosely about two or three species of simple corals of deep sea genera which occur with these shells. With all this information they should be able to 'form one horizon which will be useful in the case of other deposits.' Explains that specimen 279, which Brady had referred as having foraminifera of an older aspect, was found further inland than 810, and elevated about 20 feet above the sea. Believes that judging from the structure of [the Solomon] Islands, the superficial beds are always the most recent. |
