TitleLetter from Dr C A White, Iowa State University, Iowa City, Iowa, to Henry B[owman] Brady
Date23 April 1872
DescriptionReturned from a brief business in Nebraska, and while awaiting transfer across the Missouri river observed among the debris of limestone some fragments that the frost of the previous winter had completely disintegrated. As the crumbling storm was largely composed of Fusulina, he thought of Brady and gathered several handfuls of it, a little of which he sent to him, hoping it might interest him. Never received any paper of Dr Carpenter's on the structure of Fusulina, nor anything else from him. Is inclined to believe from what Brady writes that Carpenter's work was based upon the specimens White had sent him through Mr Davidson. His public work is entirely suspended as he had for the past three years been teaching geology and zoology at the 'young State University' of Iowa, which has departments of Law and Medicine established.
