Title | Letter from James Burrow to [Martin Folkes] |
Date | n.d. [1744] |
Description | Burrow does not know any man whose recommendation may be signed as truly as Mr. Secondat’s [Jean Baptiste de Secondat de Montesquieu] and he is obliged that he is able to show a mark of regard for him, and M. de Montesquieu [Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de la Brede et de Montesquieu]. He will remember the Abbe Sallier [Claude Sallier] and will be 'whipper-in' amongst their friends, for which purpose he will dine at the Mitre. Burrow has hinted Folkes's sentiment concerning Mr. Pickering [Roger Pickering], against whom he suspects opposition. He is sorry that he was unable to attend the Club last night: he intended to but the weather drove him into the Widow’s. Peter Davall sends his compliments to Folkes and to Miss Lucrece. |
