DescriptionIllustrations, apparently from 'A monograph of the British carboniferous lamellibranchiata', parts 1-5, by Dr Wheelton Hind (The Palaeontological Society, 1896-1900). The images, consisting of 55 plates, include some proofs where the plate and figure numbers have been omitted or added in pencil. There are occasional amendments and notes to the printer with pasted-in additional traced drawings. Textual details for figures have been added in manuscript on the opposing cover sheet for most plates. Some of these refer to specimens in 'my collection'.

The book has the flyleaf signature in ink: 'John Cadman'. The front board bears the ex libris bookplate of The Lord Cadman of Silverdale, with his coat of arms. John Cadman, 1st Baron Cadman FRS (1877-1941) British mining engineer was trained in geology at Durham University, graduating in 1899.
