TitleLetter from William Huggins, 90 Upper Tulse Hill, to Charles Vernon Boys
Date11 February 1902
DescriptionThanks Boys for his kind message of loyalty to the Royal Society and its President. He has received a letter from [Joseph] Swan saying that he signed under a misapprehension and withdrawing his signature from Lockyer. Carey Foster and Kelvin have also withdrawn. Huggins wonders if the Fellows realise what a humiliation it would be, to be dictated to by the Royal Commission or Privy Council in receiving the British Academy into the Society. 'The Fellows of the R.S. maintain the Society, and are not like the French Academicians state-pensioners'.
