TitleLetter from John Milne, Seismological Society of Japan, Tokyo, to Charles Vernon Boys
Date5 March 1892
DescriptionHe has held back on replying to Boys's letter of 2 November until the arrival of the quartz fibres. These were left at his house some weeks ago but the box was bent and many fibres were broken. He likes the form of experiment that Boys suggests but fears the lack of material will make it impossible to try. In any event he must wait until his house is cleared of its current paraphernalia, which he describes (with a sketch). He is now manufacturing apparatus for a column in a neighbouring house since he is convinced that his own house column tips. Notes a recent big earthquake and the problems it is still giving to his experiments.
