DescriptionAwdry's letter of the 11 September [1886] with enclosures addressed to the Secretary has been forwarded to Stokes, and on behalf of the Royal Society Stokes returns thanks to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty for the facilities they have afforded for the accomplishment of the objects of the Expedition [to observe the the solar eclipse], and to Commander Archer for the transport and assistance rendered to the observers.
