TitleCopy letter from Dr Michael Foster, to Colonel Henry Schaw, Deputy Director of Works for Fortification, War Office
Date23 October 1886
DescriptionIn reply to Schaw's letter of 21 September 1886, Foster is directed on behalf of the Delta Committee of the Royal Society that the report of Captain Dickinson records results which are of very great interest and importance. Having had an interview with Dickinson the Committee is most anxious that the boring at Lagazig should continue. As indicated in Foster's letter of 14 July, the Committee have no hesitation in saying that the additional £200 referred to in Schaw's letter of 25 June will be forthcoming from the Government Grant, or from the private resources of the Society. From the statement of accounts it appears that of that £200 there remains unexpended about £150 and the Committee are anxious that the boring continue until solid bottom is reached, or the £150 is spent, or until the results are such that Dickinson would judge it advisable to suspend operations until those results are made known to the Delta Committee.
