TitleCopy letter from George Gabriel Stokes, to Anselmo Ferreira Pinto Basto, Consul General for Portugal, Linsfield Cottage, Cambridge
Date2 January 1886
DescriptionSends best thanks on behalf of the eclipse committee of the Royal Society for the valuable information contained in Basto's letter of 30 December [1884]. The exact statistical statements contained in the enclosure will be most important in considering the chance of success in the event of an expedition to Benguella. Also sends thanks to the Portuguese Secretary of State through whom the information came, and the Director of the Meteorological Observatory of the Polytechnic School of Lisbon, who prepared a statistical return on the amount of cloud at Loanda at the time of year about which they are interested.
