Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to Sir Henry Percy Anderson, Foreign Office, S.W. |
Date | 8 November 1895 |
Description | In reply to Anderson's letter of 18th September in reference to the proposed International Conference for discussing the project of a Catalogue of Scientific Literature, intimating that the German Government had expressed the desire to learn whether Her Majesty's Government intended to be officially represented at the Conference and requesting to suggest the reply that should be returned to this inquiry, Foster is directed by the President and Council of the Royal Society to ask what the wishes of Her Majesty's Government are on this point.
If the Government desire that the Royal Society itself should alone represent English interests, the President and Council will gladly undertake the duty, but should the Government think it right to take a more direct share in the Conference and appoint a delegate or delegates, the President and Council would be glad to be informed of that decision. Her Majesty's Secretary of State will naturally reply to the German Government in accordance with the one decision or the other. |
