In answer to your letter addressed to the Secretaries of the Royal Society, I am instructed to inform you that no person is entitled to place the letters "F.R.S" after his name unless he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London [last two words underlined]. The Edinburgh, Tasmanian, and other Royal Societies are independent and entirely distinct bodies. Second, no one of the name of "H. Bride Barber" is or ever has been a Fellow of this Society.
I am, yours truly,
Asst. Sec. R.S. [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
