| Description | Rix notes that the entomological paper about which Foster writes is by Professor Williston. He further states that the subject came before Council on 5 December as an application from the West India Exploration Committee, and since then they have received a letter from George Murray which was on the agenda for the last Council meeting, but was not dealt with due to the absence of Foster. They do not know of a letter from Dr Sharp, but Murray has states that he had received particulars of the publication of the paper.
Dr Mellus's paper was received on 1 May, read on 13 June, was sent to the first referee on 21 May, the second referee on 17 June, the third on 15 November, and was archived on 5 December. Rix states there is no reason to believe that the circular informing Mellus of the fate of his paper was not sent. The circulars are sent to Lord Rayleigh at Terling, and are then signed and posted. He asks if Professor Horsley's note indicates that Mellus does not know about his paper.
As Foster did not come to town, Rix used his ticket for Lord Leighton's funeral, with the permission of Mr Harrison. |
