TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to William Whitehead Watts, [Fellow of the Royal Society], Geological Survey Office
Date22 July 1896
DescriptionHarrison received an intimation from the Agent-General for New South Wales of a telegram dispatched to him from Sydney, to the effect that the Coral Expedition is in difficulties, that Professor [Anderson] Stuart is sending additional apparatus, and suggesting telling Admiral Wharton and asking for extension of the 'Penguin''s time.

Admiral Wharton says that no fresh orders to the 'Penguin' are necessary as she has orders to attend on the expedition as long as required, but that the difficulties referred to are probably money related due to the delay caused by some breakdown to machinery. Harrison has informed Dr [Michael] Foster of these facts and he wires this morning that he could meet the Coral Committee on Saturday morning if necessary. Asks if Watts will inform Professor [Thomas George] Bonney, if he is accessible. There seems nothing to be done without more information.
