DescriptionAsks if the Secretary can convey to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty the sincere thanks of the President and Council of the Royal Society, for their great assistance on the recent expedition to India for the purpose of observing the Total Solar Eclipse. Very grateful for the assistance given at Viziadrug by Captain Chisholm Batten and the Officers and Crew of H.M.S. "Melpomene". Asks if can convey to Captain Batten and the Officers and men names in the enclosed list [not enclosed] for the remarkable zeal and skill with which they assisted Sir Norman Lockyer and his party. Will be remembered when writing the published record of the expedition.
