TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Joseph Ernest Petavel, [Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date8 July 1898
DescriptionRegarding Petavel's paper 'On the heat dissipated by a platinum surface at high temperatures', Rucker wishes to draw Petavel's attention to the accompanying criticisms by the paper's referees. The criticism concerns a point of language on folio nine of the type-written copy regarding the use of the term 'absolute' which in physics has a definite technical meaning. What Petavel calls 'absolute emissibility [sic]' seems to be analogous to what Regnault spoke of as 'true specific heat', in contradistinction from 'mean specific heat'.
